Wappen_Lehrte

1147 Lehrte was first mentioned in official documents, and over several centuries remained a relatively unspectacular farming community. There was no church until 1352 when the Nikolauskirche was built.
In 1843 the railway line Hannover-Lehrte was built, which in the following years was extended to Celle, Hildesheim and Berlin.
With the railway came industrial ventures, which included the sugar factory, the most important livestock market in northern Germany and a Kali & Salt mine.
